The Story Behind Ellira

The Story Behind Ellira

I was out birthday shopping with my mother, looking through all the store windows to see if I liked anything. I stopped to look at a purple dress and the clerk shered us in. She started to sell us the dress when she realized she didn’t have my size.

I was 15 years old when I was turned away. I ran out. I was so ashamed of myself. I was so ashamed of my body. I wanted to remove all the parts that didn’t ‘fit’.

Crying in the car, on the way back, I frustratingly asked my mother “Why can’t they just make bigger clothes?” “Why can’t they just fit right?” “Why does everything have to be so difficult?” she said, “Why don’t you make your own clothes?”

It took me a long time to learn that clothes don’t have to be intimidating. It took me even longer to realize that clothes are meant to fit you and not the other way around. The first dress I stitched was for myself. It was purple and I was in love. I knew that this is what I wanted to do

Through Ellira I want to give every woman what they truly want. Clothes that are liberating. Clothes that are easy. Clothes that make you feel truly beautiful. Clothes that fit everyone.
